THE CALIFORNIA FEDERAL SURPLUS PERSONAL PROPERTY PROGRAM
Eligibility
These are the non-federal organizations that are eligible to receive federal surplus personal property:
Any public agency that carries out or promotes for the residents of a given political area one or more public purposes, such as conservation, economic development, education, parks and recreation, public health and public safety.
Under Section 213 of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended (42 U.S.C 3020d), State and local government agencies, or nonprofit organizations or institutions, that receive Federal funding to conduct programs for older individuals.
The following nonprofit educational or public health institutions or organizations, all for purposes of education or public health (including research for such purposes) and all exempt from taxation under Section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954:
Child Care Centers
Clinics
Colleges
Educational radio and television stations licensed by the Federal Communications Commission
Health Care Centers
Hospitals
Libraries serving free all residents of a community, district, state or region
Medical institutions
Museums attended by the public
Providers of assistance to the homeless/impoverished
Schools
Schools for the mentally retarded
Schools for the physically handicapped
Universities
Service Educational Activities (SEA), which are educational activities of special interest to the Armed Services, and include certain schools and the following national organizations:
American National Red Cross
Armed Services of the USA YMCA
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America
Boys and Girls Clubs of America
Boy Scouts of America
Camp Fire, Inc.
Center for Excellence in Education
Girl Scouts of the USA
Little League Baseball, Inc.
League/Marine Corps League
Marine Cadets of America
National Association for Equal
Opportunity in Higher Education
National Civilian Community Corps
National Ski Patrol System, Inc.
Naval Sea Cadet Corps
Operation Raleigh
United Service Organizations, Inc.
U.S. Olympic Committee
Young Marines of the Marine Corps
Small Business firms designated by the Federal Small Business Administration as socially and economically disadvantaged under the Small Business Administration's 8(a) Business Development Programs.
